gains from stock twins??
i am selecting a turbo for my build and i was considering going with a set of modified stock twins from an FD3S. i just don't know what kind of gains i would seriously be looking at. i am looking at another journal bearing turbo anyways (GT42), so that difference isn't huge. the only major differences that i am seeing are internally vs. externally gated and single downpipe vs. custom dual. i could build the stock twins for about half the price, but if it isn't worth it, i won't even consider it.

So you have an FC, but you're thinking of putting the twins on from an FD?
Not so sure it would bolt up correctly w/ clearing the lower manifold. If it does fit, they'd have to run in non-sequential mode. As for gains, I would think it would be slightly more efficient than the stock FC HT-18 turbo, but probably not worth the hassle. I'd just drop in a BNR stage 3 or similar... |

what are your power goals?
How much $$ for the twins? How much to custom fab a manifold/DP? The Stock 13BT made 200hp on a single turbo The Stock 13B-TT made 245/250hp on twins but remember the extra 50 HP didn't come from JUST the turbo. You may be able to push close to 300hp on the stockers but I don't know how much it will cost you. If you have an NA then I don't even want to think about what's necessary to make it work. If you have a TII then I don't know if the gains will be worth the money and time spent.

i have a turbo II, btw. i am planning on dropping in a custom built turbo manifold since i don't like a whole lot of the mani's that are out right now (new), so fitment could be made to work out. i just don't think that i want to go through all of that trouble. just thought that i would see if it had been done and what the results would be. as for power goals, i am not really sure what i where i want to land, i just want to REALLY enjoy driving my car with plenty of power but not having to drive it gently in order to keep the front wheels front and rear wheels rear. I think what Ted was trying to say is Just go with a nice single turbo.. And I ill tell u that doing the stock twins may "look cool" or give u that "baller status" but honestly just go bigger, better single turbo.. u will be MUCH happier that u did.. WORD! lol |

Short answer is no, as RETed stated so succinctly.
FD twins will not clear FC Lim, FD & FC lim are not interchangeable, spacering the the FD twins out will hit the chassis. Solenoid rack,harness and compatible ecu will need to be transplanted from a FD (assuming sequential operation is the desired objective - if non sequential operation is desired it's even more completely pointless) etc etc I could carry on, but it would be a case of Last edited by Worm Burner; 10-21-2008 at 07:25 AM.. |

If you're willing to spend bank then have someone custom make you a custom turbo that takes advantages of the rotary exhaust flow for quick spool and linear power to redline.

a more linear power-band is nice... but with most of the newer ball-bearing garrett's you'll see more power without the headaches of the sequential system. not to mention the cost.
