Well nitrous in itself isn't hard on cars, provided you tune properly for it. But It's more difficult to tune for. And it's one more variable that has to be accounted for. Nitrous use on any engine is very similar to modifying a rotary, they both have a bad wrap in the reliability department. This is mainly due to people not understanding what it takes to make the rotary, or a nitrous system work successfuly. With the right knowledge in both areas nitrous could be ran reliably on a rotary. For the most part though, a turbocharger can make all the power you'll ever need so nitrous just isn't necessary.
