I still have the habit like us all to never pay retail and buy shit on the cheap, but must be high quality item or 'top shelf'.
The car ECU thing is a classic.
People go 'fuck man' you have a mega buck ECU.......... but forget that extreme example for a second, you look in my ECU thread for example of units that only cost ~$4500 Life Racing F88 (for example).
You buy *one* unit and it does
everything.
Data Logger
AFR Measure
Boost Control
Engine
Gearbox
Traction Control
Ignition System
You go add up all of that shit + ghetto enable codes LOL (some shit brands) and even wehn buying ghetto, you get to the price of top shelf, only difference is you still have a turd of a system all interconnected with scotch locks and cable ties LOL.
Sometimes (and this comes with age) you just need to take a step back and think, and spend the ca$h once and you do end up with much better solutions and better value long term.
Sure high quality costs initially, but ironically it is cheaper long term, and a fuck load better all the way through
