Just put a new engine in my car. It's an s5 TII engine with the emissions removed. When it is cold and hasn't been started that day it will crank and die instantly for 4 or 5 tries. Once the 5 try I can get it to stay running but I have to hold it at about 2500 or 3000 rpms to get it to keep idle and it has a miss for about 1 minute and then will idle and run fine and very strong. What could cause this?

well if you removed all the emissions did you remove the thermowax controls on the throttle body?

Thermowax controls?

there is supposed to be a coolant line off the engine block to the throttle body, then it returns back to the water pump. This flowed coolant to a thing called the thermowax, which, while cold held the throttle open and as the coolant warmed, let off the throttle plates. if its removed (common for people to do when removing emissions not knowing what it fully is) your cold start blows.

Oh ok. Yea I don't believe it is there haha. Where would the line be exactly?

well the coolant line comes off the rear iron to the throttle body if it was there. There is a nipple extending straight up on top of the engine.

i would also double check for vacuum leaks.

Yea I checked all the vac leaks and they are ok. Is the nipple on the side of the rear iron or on the top?

on top. its rather large (since it flowed coolant).

its around there on most 13bs

Ok gotcha. I'm about postivie it isn't. I'll check it and fix it. That will help with cold start?

depends if you have the equipment connected to the throttle body or not. can you get a picture of your TB?
