There were only two RX-7's at this event.
Michael Pinto had planned to have his FB there, but broke the clutch while drag racing the night previous. :(
Zack Morgan took FTD driving Josh McCall's V8 FC.
Josh came in third overall.
I managed a top 10 at ninth overall. I probably could have moved up a few spots if I had driven the slalom faster.
It didn't seem my FD had enough though to catch Josh and Zack.
Looks like I need to ask Rob again about that 4.77 gear set.

wooo zack is a good ass driver. he has never driven my car before, and ran a 40.143 on his first run. FTD was 39.141
also, i've never been in the passenger seat with slicks on a warm day. that was.. suprising lol
anyway jared, i'm sure that super low speed corner in the end was really hurting your times. you were doing really well last year in this crowd, and i'm not expecting anything less this year :)
you may want that 4.77. i was on the limiter in 2nd for half the strait. considering i was barely ever on it last year, you probably werent getting much past 6k
i hope theres some decent pics! i'm keeping an eye out for it

No kidding. I worked a station with him, and he seemed to know what he was talking about, but he still blew me away with that first run.

I rode with the 2 fastest Boxster drivers, and got the same impression.
You don't realize just how hard you are cornering until you sit in the passenger seat.

There's not time to look at the tach. I'll get a passenger to keep an eye on for me next time.
If I had an in car PC, I could just log from the Datalogit during a run.

Wow, 3 7's in the top 10... looks like a good showing for the 7's!!
3 drivers, 2 7's ;)
Huge congrats to Zach, Josh, and Jared for showing the Porsche's what's what. I missed my FB sooooo bad every corner when John's GTO just plowed through. At least I beat him in his own car :P
Jared,
I have a laptop I can drag out and I have an AutoTap on the way (OBDII/CAN real-time reader/diagnostics). Or I can just stare at the tach for you instead of just providing ballast.
I drove mine around the block today. Clutch holds to 7500RPM, no slippage, but man does it make a weird noise engaging from a dead stop. I wish I wasn't so broke so I could just slap another new clutch in there. Stupid cheap car...grumble grumble. I plan on making the SCCA Sunday one in 2 weeks so I need to get cracking regardless.

on that note- i'm pretty sure my slave is fubar
the clutch slipped on zack's FTD... crazyness
theory is the slave pressurizes itself and disengages the clutch with enough rpm/heat. i just had the trans off 500 miles ago :(

Do you have a smallish laptop?
The one I use for tuning is 15" and has terrible battery life, and so needs an AC converter plugged into the Aux power.
Should be doable by setting the power options to stay on with the lid closed.
Or, you could just watch the tach. :)
It's OK Josh, I think that's exactly what mine did too. Change that slave!
Jared,
It's a normal size Dell. The AutoTap will be smaller, but I don't know if it will work without the laptop. Also the AutoTap needs an OBDII port. It needs a new battery but I'll buy one soon since I just upgraded the thing. (Typing on it now actually). All else fails I'll watch the tach

Found the clunk in my front suspension that I was hearing and feeling on Sunday.
The sway bar was hitting the tie rods, just enough to chip the paint on the sway bar, and feel it in the car.
New bronze bearings and spacers will get the swaybar back down to stock height so that won't happen anymore.
Good investigation! Unfortunately my clutch is done for. They will honor the warranty (supposedly) but it will take at least 10 days to get the stupid thing back. I think I may just buy one and get it over with. I am in the points lead in my class for SCCA!

i have a nasty clunk to figure out in my rear end..
i'm guessing its also the sway bar smacking into chassis/trailing arms. ima pull that out and see what happens.
slave is ordered, and im making a remote speed bleeder made. oh god i hate pulling the transmission :(
all 3 rx7's with problems lol
Wouldn't be right otherwise.
I'll help you pull yours if you help me pull mine. I think I'm starting today though...

i like how the 'mazdas dominated' thread turns into the broken mazda thread lol
Mazda's are like Alfa's. They are built to be the best cars at what they do... briefly.
