Does anyone know the options or spec differences between these two I have a friend that knows everything (or just about ) the GT-X but doesn't know anything about the GT-R. Was just curious because I was going to be getting new badges for my GT-X and was just thinking about changing it up that's all. Thanks for the help.

GT-R was no sunroof, all lightweight stuff open diff and steel wheels I do believe.
Made leightweight from the factory intended to have most parts replaced with aftermarket race pieces i assume.

A turbo RX-7 with an open diff? This was JDM spec only, right?

GT-R is closer to an US S4 cosmetically as well from what I believe with no side skirts, etc.

From what I heard, the GT-R is like a GTU, or an S4 sport, except turbo of course. Manual windows, steering, no rear wiper, etc. Kind of a lightweight, stripped FC.
But I have been wrong many times. Where is RETed when you actually need him :P

It has nothing to do with which year the FC was made.
The GT-X is basically a higher trim level than a GT-R.
Consider the GT-R as a base model.

At first, I thought this thread was going to be about the Mazda 323 GTX vs a Nissan GTR comparison. lol

uhhh...is gt-r not series 4, and gt-x not series 5? I guess your statement is true by the same token that usdm series 5 turbo II's are more optioned than USDM series 4 turbo II's.
I always thought the 'standard" FC was a gt-r or gt-x (depending on series), gt-limited being a more optioned model, and infini being the stripped "race" version like the USDM GTUs.
This myth was somehow perpetuated a long time ago.
It has stubbornly stuck around...I dunno why.
Check out the link that was mentioned earlier.
Actually, click this one:

The text descriptions are rather vague, but they do have different year links at the bottom.
The GT-R and GT-X are trim levels available at almost every year the FC3S was new in Japan.
Technically, the GT-Limited was only an S4 model and was not available as an S5 model.
The GT-R and GT-X models both crossed over from S4 to S5.
Pick up any HyperRev RX-7 edition, and there's a chart in the back describing this graphically.

Neither does mine, but then it's not really a GT-X. :D
How does that work? What is it then?
And thanks for all the info on this (to all)

I think the 3rd brake light was a US only addition, mandated by the DOT.

That is correct.
All US sold vehicles required that hokey 3rd brake like since 1986.
Wow, that was a long time ago!

Ok but this isn't a US car. I know that the USDM ones have it I was just saying that because I didn't realize when I bought the car that it was different on JDM ones.

Oh, didn't realize your question was aimed at Kevin. My mistake, haha.
