Blower Motor ?

Been thinking about my project car lately and the direction im going to take it. The conclusion of this thinking has resulted in the want/desire to turn my 88 NA into a weekend/track/autocross car with all the non essentials removed for weight purposes.

Ive already pulled all the 'accessories' that once came with my car and soon the stereo is next in line. But as Ive pulled everything underhood related to my AC components ive decided that the AC core under the dash was next, and subsequent thinking led me to believe I could also remove the logicon and with the heatercore locked into the 'defrost/floor' mode I could in theory just use a single toggle switch wired to the blower motor to run it at full power with full heat.

With the backstory out of the way, now comes the question:
How big of a relay would I need to use to keep from burning out my switch and wiring? Are we talking the typical 4/5pin 30/40amp automotive bits we use for electric fan 'upgrades', or something bigger?

If your blower is pulling even reasonably close to 30 amps, I'd be concerned. A third of that would seem a tad high to me.

AC core under the dash was next


If you are pulling the core from under the dash, that is the "heater core" without that u will never get heat into the car..

if the AC CORE is the condensor outside by the radiator..

as for the amperage I would use a minimum 50 amp relay

The Condenser is in front of the radiator, the Evaporator is in the dash.

You have to take the whole under dash unit out. Then separate the plastic case and remove just the A/C Evaporator. Put it back together with just the heater core. Easy.

Ok so we have a conflicting statement of the blower drawing either >30 amps or in th e neighborhood of 40ish... I like to figure out which is which before I start taking my dash apart.

And I meant the evaporator under the dash. I had already removed the condenser to give more airflow to the radiator a few years back, and actually plan on removing teh entire evaporator box itself and just having either a sheetmetal box made or use some dryer ducting to help move the air from the heater core to the blower assembly.

ah ok.. u meant the evap core.. gottcha.. I thought u were refering to the heater core lol..

what i did is to the black box ou from under the dash, and carefully pry off the little clips on it.
Then I just separated the box, and took out the evap radiator thingy... after that, the clips went back on, and i put some aluminum tape squares over the holes in the firewall and the black box.

PS: this was done the same day I took my dashboard out.
