Oops, I misspelled the name and couldn't edit the title.
Yesterday I called the resort with no answer, today I called in the a.m. and left a message. Still didn't get a reply so I called once again and you guessed it. . . no reply. I'm not the only one either, a friend of mine isn't getting a response either.
I need accommodation for 8 people and with rooms dropping like flies I wanna be proactive and get things done before its too late.
This isn't professional.

I called & reserved myself a lodge room there the morning of 12/24. At that time they said all they had left were lodge rooms and one of the larger fireplace suites down the hill. They still haven't charged the deposit to my CC, nor have they sent me an email with the confirmation/receipt as they said they would.
They did mention they have minimal/no staff this time of year, so I'm hoping this will fix itself, but I'm getting concerned too.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news Zach, but I doubt the Village has accomodations for 8 at this point. Now the luxury cabins are handled by a seperate entity which is the Resort. They did say the Resort offers the same deal as the Village for attendees

I emailed early this morning and I'm hoping to finally hear something. It really sucks that we're more than likely not going to get to stay at the event after being in attendance since 2007. It's almost a deal breaker with going this year :(

You may be better off calling them than emailing...
I called them about 45 minutes ago to ask about the status of my reservation. They just returned my call and told me my reservation is secure, but they haven't charged my CC deposit yet because their CC machine is FUBAR'ed and they are waiting for its replacement.

Zach I hate to hear that. Have you contacted the Resort? They handle all the cabins on the other side where we stayed with Seth that one year.

We just called this morning and were told that everything is booked. I left my name and number in the event there is a cancellation (unlikely), but no suggestion was made to contact the "resort." Can someone provide a reservations number other than 828-488-9000? We have also stayed in the same room the past two years, and are really disappointed that we are going to be offsite. How did all the rooms fill up so quickly?

I'm pretty sure more sponsors reserved spots this year, and NVNC no longer owns a few of the cabins. It usually takes around 2 weeks to fill up...
NVNC just really isn't big enough for our event anymore. We already have 50 rotary vehicles and 66 people registered in the first week.
If you log into the site, mouse over the "about us" drop down, you can see the attendee map.

The name of the company for area that you are taking about, from what I was told when I was on the phone with them a few min ago was Hidden Creek Cabins. Hope this helps someone.

Yep, DJ I did find one! There is hope people, try this place: Hidden Creek Cabins (http://www.hiddencreekcabins.com/index.html) We got the Kloud View Kabin (http://www.hiddencreekcabins.com/kloudviewkabin1.html)
These are cabins across the street, up the hill. If you've been there before then you know it's a PITA to get to your cabin because its like a Pikes Peak race to get there but its better than nothing!

Hey guys, Happy New Year!
That being said, I'm sorry about the cabins across the street. I have talked to couple of people and been waiting on a call back from the people who suppose to handle 6 cabins across the street.
To my defense, its a mess up there. Ownership changes every few years and its a mess!
Couple of suggestions are:
The following companies are good alternatives to the Nantahala Village.
1. MicroTel of the Great Smoky Mountains which is 6 miles from the Village just off the four lane at the Bryson City exit 67.
Their telephone number is 828-488-7900
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e79/herblenny/image001.gif
2. Watershed luxury log homes which have cabins different distances from the Village, you would just need to ask.
Their telephone number is 888-604-3075.
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e79/herblenny/image002.gif
Sleep Inn in Bryson City is 7 miles from the Village, take the Bryson City exit 67 off the four lane and it will be 1 mile on the left going toward Bryson City.
Their telephone number is 828-488-0326

I stayed in the cabins across the street up the hill years ago. Nice cabins, but if you're too low... hitch a ride, or borrow Brian's Jeep :)

Yep, we had the really big one at the top one year. When we got up there to unpack our stuff, Big Johns truck was stuck in the ditch right in front of our cabin!!
It was pretty damn funny.

Maybe next year Fontana should be used again.
MUCH closer to the Dragon, much more space, many more cabins, gas, food and activities on site.
I miss the first couple years sometimes, just because Fontana was so damn close to US129.

I understand staying loyal to the village we have been using for so many years, but since it has changed hands so many times I dont think its warranted anymore. With the large parking lot we can have more cars in one spot, and maybe the Rx8's wont have to park in the dirt anymore...

While that may be the case, we're a bigger group now, and I believe they have new management. Doesn't hurt to talk to them, or give them a chance since we're completely out of room at the current venue.

Microtel is offering 1 night free for a 3 night stay if you use the code "Deals Gap Rotary Rally". This is a really good deal. We're talking under $172

Good news! The Microtel Inn in Bryson City has extended a discount to DGRR attendees. They are offering one night free if you stay three. So, Thursday is free and you pay only for Friday and Saturday. This amounts to a savings of $44 over the normal rate ($172 total versus $216).
To book under this rate simply call 828-488-7900 and use the block code "Deals Gap Rotary Rally"
The hotel is quite nice and about 10 or so miles from the event:

Well, as I can't make it due to crap work scheduling something the same time, I am heading up the first weekend in April with the family and some friends (I refuse to go a year without a dragon fix!) and will be staying at Fontana. They were what we had to go with because we are bringing a trailer or two and were the only ones with a lot big enough to park them. They have given us a military discount (WIN), but I will be checking the place out very thoroughly for any and all issues that have been mentioned here, so if anyone else has any other Fontana complaints speak up please. I will let everyone know how it went, perhaps this may be helpful with planning next year...? I will at least give Phil my feedback on my stay there.

I doubt their ability to cater to a small group will be a problem. It was when they had us and the Porsche Club, we sure weren't getting the custom treatment lol

We have a lot more people now, and I'm sure we would have even more if there was more space at the event lodging.
Sephitrask
02-07-2013, 05:53 PM
Yeah, at this point DGRR is not anything close to a small event, or even a small club gathering, but rather massive revenue for the lodge. If anything it wouldn't hurt to approach them with the idea of hosting and see what is said. If my restaurant was up there I would be bending over backwards to get the business.

Maybe my point was missed. I was saying how they accommodate your party may not be a great example of how they treat 100 of us lol.
