This is for an 89 GTU auto with a stock engine and header. How driveable is it without the 6 ports? The engine we rebuilt was full of carbon and the rods in the lower intake are completely seized, actually the outer end is broken off on one. I am going to look for a good replacement but looking at the possibility of using this until then.
Anybody got a good lower S5 intake with unseized rods?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

The problem you will not have as much power higher up. I drove my car for years with out them working. If they are stuck open the car will feel laggy untill you reach 3800 or so rpm. You should post some pics, it may help.
In short it will run and drive fine but it will not make as much power high, if they are stuck closed, low if they are stuck open.

It's really not that bad. I'm currently driving with them open and it is pretty slow down low, but it's fine for around town. I guess I'd notice a difference if I were launching or something, but it's an N/A.... what's the point anyways?

Does it feel like you have turbo lag?

What lag? It's an NA. I think he's trying to say that with the ports jammed open, it will just be a bit more sluggish at low RPMs than a properly functioning 6 port NA.

I meant like, no power no power, then, bam power and she scoots.

Yes, basically. I'm also running T2 manifolds as I'm turboing the N/A block but that probably doesn't make too much of a difference. Around 4000-4500 it starts to take off. If I'm driving around town I don't really need to go fast under those rpm. It's still perfectly drivable at a stop light or whatever. If I'm ripping on it I'm not under those rpm anyways.

Thanks for all the info guys.
Being that we're building this for my son, I'm gonna put them in closed, until I can find a good lower manifold. Being it's an automatic, probably won't get to 4K alot. That should help keep him out of trouble. Pretty much alot of around town driving, not alot of interstate.

If it's mostly around town or interstate then leaving them closed is best. It'll be short some hp up top, but it's an N/A automatic, it's not exactly a speed demon anyways. :)
