Alright, I have a 500R-SP and an engine just built by someone else on the forums that will remain nameless. I blew my last engine in January, installed this one around March/April and everything was fine until one day it started burning a lot of oil, I'm talking like a quart in a 45 minute drive. I talked to the person that built the engine and he said if it was the control rings it would be shooting oil out the exhaust.
I took off the turbo and manifold and ran the engine and no oil came out, so that confirmed that it was the turbo. I did not rev the engine with the turbo and everything off though, just let it idle. The reason I originally thought it could be the turbo was because instead of venting to a catch can I hooked up the lines in stock configuration...this doesn't work apparently haha. So I started venting to atmosphere until I can get my catch can from Adam. Anyway, since it wasn't vented properly, I was told the oil could have been forced to stay in the turbo instead of draining into the pan, and therefore blowing out the seals.
I bought a new CHRA and replaced it and installed it this past week. I ran it Friday night and it didn't seem to lose much oil, so I figured it might be fixed. I drove it to Denver yesterday and it smoked so freakin bad, and I burned a whole quart of oil (it's about a 45 minute drive). The oil was at the low mark on the dipstick.
And the person that built the engine still claims it's not the engine, but I can't possibly see what else it could be. I'm not blaming him for the engine at all, because it was just fine when I first installed it. I think it was something I did.
-I have an external reservoir for 2-cycle feeding the OMP, so the engine isn't drawing oil from the pan anymore, it's completely blocked off.
-I don't have any external leaks, none that I've found anyway, because this would have to be a TON of oil all over everything and it's pretty clean all around.
-I still have the filler neck vented directly to atmosphere.
-The turbo CHRA (dual BB) is brand new. And it has a restrictor but I don't remember what size. It was provided with the kit.
-I'm not even sure the OMP is working because my 2-cycle level doesn't look like it's dropped at all in a while. Luckily I've been premixing too.
-I know the car is running rich so I know some of it is fuel smoke, but the oil level is dropping drastically and I can smell burnt oil that isn't 2-cycle.
-The engine only has about 3k miles on it, if that. I haven't driven it much because I'm using Royal Purple and I can't afford to pay $9 every time I want to drive the car, on top of already high gas prices.
Any ideas?
