So I am getting my engine rebuilt by Lucky7 soon. Since my engine is going to be fresh with 0 miles I want to have a new waterpump on that bad boy. So my question is are there any water pumps I should stay away from? or are there any people recommend. I just want a stock one that serves its purpose with my Koyo radiator and stock mazda thermostat.

Just make sure you buy a 'new' water pump, not a reman.
I've heard great things about Beck/Arnley ;)

If you're talking "better" in terms of pump performance
Mazmart.........but its for the FD. And its, as far as I know, the only "highflow" replacement pump outside of an electric unit.
But just because its for an FD doesn't mean there's no FC's around with them on......:suspect:

how would you modify it to fit an FC pump housing?

Those crazy Canadians. I think classic has some crazy engine in his FC. That's how they roll in the arctic!

Whats wrong with getting a reman?

Joe is using the REW WP housing. The front cover too. Not too sure if the WP housing will work with an FC front cover though.

I have the stock (read: 24 years old) radiator and water pump on my car and have never had a problem with them. My only cooling issue came up when I needed the thermostat replaced. Once I did that, she was fine.
Take that as you want.

Waterpumps have a "Weep" hole in them. Once the water pump seal starts leaking, coolant slowly drips out that hole. This is how you can check if your water pump is bad.

I was in a jam and bought a WP from my local jobber, installed it, tightened the belt, started it up and three things happened, it sounded like I killed a cat, chewed the belt to hell, and royally pissed me off. The impeller wasn't pressed in tight enough and it jammed on the housing.
The day I was supposed to leave for Deals some assholes at Hank Mays GoodYear in Stamford CT overheated my engine while doing an emmisions test, as in 265* water and oil temps. Not only did the kill the WP, the warped the front cover, warped the TB, popped the oil feed line, and broke a rear side side seal. In a jam again I bought a waterpump from a different jobber, that one held up fine and is still doing just fine. I was going to buy a MazMart pump, but my temps are about 170* on the highway.... so yeah.
