I have both oil and brake fluid extractor.

Dan, I had an Acura and it had filter at the bottom.. I stilled used it as it sucked up more oil than draining the oil thru the plug. And like you said, it was cleaner.

In our MX-5 I just change the oil using this and change the filter every other change (3k miles).. except I been using Amsol synthetic that say I could run upto 12K.. so I do it 5k and change the filter. MX5 is pain in the ass to change out the filter.. and MESSY!
