I recently bought a one owner 1989 GXL RX-7. The owner never drove it hard enough to open the secondary ports. As a result, the mechanical actuators for the 5th and 6th ports could not open the ports, as the shafts to the ports were so carboned up they would not move. The flange on on of the shafts had actually been broke, and someone had made a lame attempt to repair it. The shafts had to be driven out with a hammer and replaced. Yes, I soaked them first in PB Blaster. Other carbon related issues are clearing up gradually, as the new owner has a somewhat heavier foot than the previous owner. It's no surprise then that issues could creep up in the RX-8 when not driven hard on occasion. |
