GB:SMB Exhaust Products Introductory GB!! Great Prices & Savings for RCC Members!!
We at JKL Racing Engineering are proud to announce that we have become the Exclusive Distributor of SMB Products for the RX7 & RX8 in North America. To mark this special occasion, JKL Racing Engineering will be offering a Special Introductory Group Buy exclusively to RCC members.
For those of you that do not know about SMB, here is some background information: In 1961, Ern Walker started working for himself when he was 21 making extractors and exhaust systems for motor vehicles to increase their performance. In 1982 Grant Walker joined the company after having previous experience working for major automotive original equipment supply companies. Grant took over the role of development, sales and marketing of new exhaust for new motorcycle models. It wasn't long before inquiries started to come regarding exhausts for high performance motor vehicles, and the lessons and concepts learnt from working with the latest motorcycle engines were easily transferred to new generation of high performance engines. In 1995, Mazda Australia approached E.S. Walker Manufacturing when they were building the Australia’s high performance of the RX-7 m dubbed the RX7 SP. This model was developed as an official road-going version of the factory race cars used in the 12hr endurance races held at Bathurst, New South Wales, beginning in 1991 for the 1995 event held at Eastern Creek, Sydney, New South Wales. An initial run of 25 were made, and later an extra 10 were built by Mazda due to demand. The RX-7 SP was a serious race car that matched their rival Porsche 911 RS CS for the final year Mazda officially entered. The formula paid off when the RX-7 SP won the title, giving Mazda the winning 12hr trophy for a fourth straight year. A later special version, the Bathurst R, was released in 2001. As the volume of work was rapidly increasing, the decision was made to form a new company in order to market and sell the automotive aftermarket exhausts and performance components. This is how the company "Special Men’s Business” (SMB) came about. Why SMB? Countless hours of R&D and race inspired technology has made it possible for SMB to bring their line of quality exhaust components to car enthusiasts all over the world. SMB makes produces their own line of polished exhaust parts from Metallic Substrate Cats to Dolphin-Tail Cat-Back Exhaust systems. What are the Advantages of the Metallic Substrate Cats compared to the Ceramic cats? Benefits of Metallic Vs (Conventional) Ceramic 1. A much higher flow capacity - Nearly twice the capacity of ceramic core 2. Resistance to cracking - Handling of ceramics is always difficult as they are fragile 3. Resistance to melting - Ceramics especially on a rich engine melt down at a lower temp than the metallics 4. More durable. Metallics are able to withstand impact from various road debris. A common problem is hitting the converter on gutters, or on rocks which would otherwise crack the ceramic core 5. Less weight - Ceramics are a denser core and as such weigh more. 6. Resistance to oil fouling - Ceramics if they get clogged with oil will overheat and melt down quickly, metallic’s usually will burn off the excess oil and still be OK for use. (learned this on the Dyno blowing up a few turbo’s and Miata engines) 7. These metallic cats are also 200 CFM cats. These are the same CFMs as the ones used in the Knightsport Metalit cats. "With our metallics we spent a lot of time getting the taper right on entry to the core, we are quickly getting copied on this as it works, there is still some in the market that resist and still do a blunt dome type taper on their converters, which means that their converters can’t flow as well as ours." -Grant Walker Last edited by mdude; 04-08-2008 at 08:29 PM.. |

Here are the SMB Products we will be offering for the FD:
HEADER PIPE The header pipe has a pressed shaped section out of the turbo to allow the exhaust gases to flow and expand into the chamber to minimize the restriction we found that by then sending the gas through a 3½" pipe that noticeable gains were evident, the header pipe then is gradually tapered down at the cat end to 3" diameter to suit the same bolt pattern as the original exhaust. all from 304 stainless steel. Part Number: MRHP353 HI FLOW CAT CONVERTER Ceramic core high flow converter, the lead in and lead out tubes and flanges are 304 stainless steel, we have found the ceramic core high flow converters are satisfactory for up to around the 200kw mark over that consider the metallic substrate converters. Part Number: MRHCC METALLIC SUBSTRATE CONVERTER Metallic substrate converters give an exceptionally high flow rate for their size compared to traditional ceramic core converters, for example the back pressure in the header pipe with a conventional hi flow cat fitted is around 4psi with a metallic substrate it is around 1.5psi Part Number: MRMSC3 METALLIC SUBSTRATE CONVERTER WITH MUFFLER This is a variation on our very successful Metallic substrate converter 3" as shown above. The addition of an 8" x 5" oval muffler is for those who may already have another brand of "cannon type" type muffler fitted. And wish to, or need to make the exhaust system quieter.Or for some one who simply want to make their existing system quieter. The muffler is a straight through 3" designed for maximum flow. Part Number: MRMSC3M DUAL TIP 3" CAT-BACK EXHAUST The lead in tube, and the center tube of the muffler is 3" diameter stainless steel CNC mandrel bent to ensure accuracy of fit, the hanger brackets are to suit the original mountings, the body of the muffler is 304 stainless steel, around the center core is stainless steel wool in blanket form, with hi temperature hi density acoustic fibre packing, the the body of the muffler is basically the same shape as original, shorter in length, to allow for smoother flowing bends into the muffler. The tips are twin wall stainless to stop heat discoloration. Part Number: MROTRM3 4" SINGLE EXIT DOLPHIN TAIL CAT-BACK EXHAUST The lead in tube, and the center tube of the muffler is 3" diameter stainless steel (ALSO AVAILABLE IN 3½") CNC mandrel bent to ensure accuracy of fit, the hanger brackets are to suit the original mountings, the body of the muffler is 304 stainless steel, around the center core is stainless steel wool in blanket form, with hi temperature hi density acoustic fibre packing, the the body of the muffler is basically the same shape as original, shorter in length, to allow for smoother flowing bends into the muffler. This exhaust is constructed in the same way as the Dual Tip muffler with the exception that it has a 4" bent exhaust tip as per the original 12 hour cars. Part Number: MR4RM3 TITANIUM TIP CAT-BACK EXHAUST The lead in tube and the center tube of the muffler is 3" diameter stainless steel CNC mandrel bent to ensure accuracy of fit, the hanger brackets are to suit the original mountings , the body of the muffler is 304 stainless steel, around the center core is stainless steel wool in blanket form, with hi temperature hi density acoustic fibre packing, the titanium tip is added polished and colored to bring out the brilliant colors of titanium. Part Number: MRTRM3 Last edited by JKL Racing Engineering; 03-25-2008 at 02:49 AM.. |

Here are the products that we will be offering for the RX8:
The system SMB has developed for the RX8 is a High flow cat section plus a cat back system. A metallic substrate cat converter is used in the cat section to allow for even greater flow than the original. Our testing result proved that in this section the optimum pipe dia is 2 3/4" (which is a unique tube dia in stainless available to SMB) The cat back section comprises of an intermediate tube, plus a rear muffler section, the cat back section utilizes a mixture of tube dia to achieve the desired results. SMB has achieved a system that gives good increases in rear wheel Kilowatts, a noticeable driving difference through the increase in torque and quicker throttle response. The exhaust note is typical of SMB, i.e. a subtle exhaust note on constant throttle (so no cabin drone) but opens up under load to give you that true sports experience, through the design we managed to minimize the pop back under de-acceleration to an absolute minimum, the heat retained by the rear mufflers is kept to a minimum by the use of SMB's unique packaging material. (so no more smelling melting rear bumpers) Through out the development process the staff at SMB deliberately did not view any other brands or products for the RX8. Which gave the system we produced a visually unique system, through the placement and angles the mufflers are positioned at. This system is one of the best designs we have produced. Here is a video/sound clip of the full exhaust system: CAT BACK EXHAUST SYSTEM The cat back section comprises of an intermediate tube, plus a rear muffler section, the cat back section utilizes a mixture of tube dia to achieve the desired results. I just noticed that you guys still left RCC in your introductory title description on the evil forum. They haven't jumped your case with that yet? I actually posted in there thinking I was in RCC even though the layouts are completely different colors
Guess I'll ask my question again here as well. Can this also include their universal things such as their oval resonators? |
