Here is the registration page:

http://mrcmfg.com/mazdameets/catalog/

To register for the event is $30. This comes with all of the amenities of being a registered guest. Saturday they will have track lapping. I believe last year it was sometime around noon and it was free of charge.

There will also be a PDX Sunday that you can register for as well, but it is optional. The same is true for the autox/time attack scheduled for Sunday as well. They are optional so you can choose which you would like to do at your own discretion.

Phil, the PDX registration will open around 1 month before the event. We will provide a link once it is open. The Zoom-Fest registration will get you the reduced rate for the PDX.

In the racing world each event is covered under what is called "supplemental regulations". The SRs will be out when the registration opens. For now though you can view the SR for the May event - The info will be about the same:

Billy, can you describe the PDX/Time Attack some more. Basically I'm a little confused I saw where it says "Auto X style Time Attack" on one of the threads. Is the PDX/Time Attack going to be on the Road Atlanta course or is it in the parking lot? Thanks man.

Sure thing, here is the Skinny.

The AutoX:

is operated for us by the Atlanta region SCCA Solo. AutoX is an event that is setup in parking lots with the use of cones to establish the course. Normally there are a bunch of classes based on the vehicles performance and then modifications.

Our event will be a "Time Attack" style event. What we mean by this is that there will be 4 classes and the fastest in the class wins. These are Piston or Rotary powered and then Stock or Modified. This allows us all to have a great time without all the normal confusion over classes and where your car fits. Bottom line this mean more runs and less hassle.

For those that have never seen an AutoX or the skid pad area at road Atlanta I will elaborate a bit. The skid pad area is a large open area with a few paved courses. There will be more "paved road" than cones. What this means is that for first time AutoX competitors there is WAY less risk in crashing and the course will be very easy to navigate. This does not mean it will be boring to the more advanced drivers either.

The AutoX is open only to Zoom-Fest attendees only. You are not required any special cages or crazy stuff like that. You should bring a helmet since the loaner helmets may be few. Trust me, your arms will we worn out at the end of this event.

The PDX:

The PDX is operated by the SCCA Road Race division. This is not our event specifically, though we have worked out a special price for Zoom-Fest attendees. You will save $30.

A PDX puts you on the race track with others of your same skill level. There are 3 groups. First group is for first time PDXers. You will have an instructor in the car with you. Second group is for those who have PDXed in the past. You will also have an instructor in the car with you. Third group is for experienced drivers without instructors.

You will only be allowed to pass in certain areas of the track based on your group. Mainly the straights. They set a speed limit for the first two groups of 110MPH. If you have never been on Road Atlanta you will not feel "held back" at this speed. Most IT and Spec Miatas normally only see 130 MPH anyways.

This is an instructional style event not a race. By the end of the event you will have scared the crap out of yourself and learned a good bit of information from some great instructors.

We do not register this event. We will provide a link once the SCCA opens registration. This is normally 1 month before the event date. You will sign up and pay the SCCA directly.

This is open to street legal cars only. Cars must be muffled and not exceed street limit sound. Convertibles must have a roll bar. This link is for the rules from the May event. The July event rules will be 99% the same. You will need a helmet, long sleeve shirt and long pants.

About Both

Each event is a bit different but both are still equally enjoyable. We have scheduled the weekend so that you can do both.

The PDX and AutoX are optional for Zoom-Fest 09.

You can add the AutoX to your shopping cart when registering for Zoom-Fest. The PDX registration link and info will be posted later.

The auto-x sounds like fun. And I probably won't burn up my tires in one day.

Tires will be fine at either the PDX or the AutoX.

Autocross is probably a lot harder on tires than time spent on a track. More experienced drivers can make their tires last, but its very easy to "oversteer" during an autocross and start scrubbing the tires real bad. This goes along with the saying "you need to slow down if you want to go fast". I am very hard on my tires. lol.

Looks like I don't think I could make it... I have a photoshoot in TN weekend after and I have to ask time off for it (I just asked my boss today and found out about the photoshoot date on saturday). And I can't take 2 weekends in a roll as we laid 2 people from my work...

Sorry about this Billy.. I really REALLY want to make it out there!! I'll let you know if something changes.. Maybe I could head out for a day.. I have to check.
