Default EGT wires....extension?

Just curious, I'm hooking up two EGT's and might, possibly, *just* reach the intended location of the gauge without adding any wire.

However, ideally I'd like to add a plug to easily remove the entire assembly (both in the a-pillar) if need be rather then fishing out the connectors on the back of the gauge.

Which brings me to - will they work correctly if I add:

a) one metripack connector (ie, two crimped on pins)
b) 2ft of regular wire
c) 2ft of other thermocouple wire from older Hewitt Ktype TC's
d) B+A
e) C+A

I've measured the resitance of pieces of wire, the metripack pins, the actual thermocouple(s), and don't see why this won't work but a few people have told me that thermocouples use thermocouple wire and nothing else and its got me worried enough to pose the question.

Yes? No?

OK:

I did some testing last night with a toaster oven in the garage.

Long story short, after two slices of toast and some fiddling around - the probes measured the same with 3ft of copper extension wire as they did without it.

I tested them by first doing a control, both probes hooked up as is, in the oven, at 350C.

Then I added 3ft of copper to one, and restarted the oven.

Then I added 3ft of thermocouple wire, and restarted the oven.

All results were the same + or - a needle width.

Hope it doesn't void my warranty
