Exclamation NoPis1O's Build Thread

Heres a little taste. Still trying to work out a couple kinks but its coming along.

Hey RCC
I have been on this Fourm for a while some of you might know my Lowered Fc vert. fairly stock car i like to auto cross and have funn with. Well last week i picked up a 1989 fc gxl with a Individual carbed 13b with a couple mods.
Story behind the car: it was built by a guy in st louis,MO and i guess he like to drag race it. go figure. but then he sold it and it has since passed threw a couple hands to me. The people who bought it from him burnt the clutch and never fixed it. when i got the car oil and tranny fluid looked like it came straight out of the bottle. so im guessing they burnt the clutch way before they could poorly matain it. so kindof a blessing.

Here is what the car looks like now and where my Journey begins. I have already pulled the engine and tranny. im going to replace the clutch( which i have already purchased) resurface the flywheel (which is a 8 pound unknown aftermarket one) then clean and paint the engine bay before it goes back in. I have pictures of the pull but dont have them on my computer yet.

PS if anyone recognizes the car and knows who built it i would love to talk with him. (or if any board members who live in st louis want to do some research that would be awesome.)

Here is how she Sat when i got her.

Looks pretty solid. Are you going to keep the carb setup or go back to EFI?

Ok, two things again:

1: fail to give proper credit for working my ass off pulling the engine
2: didn't post pics of the old clutch.

verdict: still fail.

That thing is...hideous.
It looks like someone got pissed off at the stock fuel injection and decided to convert it to a downdraft.

Carb needs to be rebuilt?
It's leaking FUEL all over the place...
The car doesn't reek of gasoline???

Good luck tuning the carb and changing out points!
That MSD is gonna eat distro points for breakfast...

You autocross this thing?
The stock AAS is still intact.

yeah, the "got pissed at the FI setup" was my guess too! Especially from how ghetto-fabbed some of the work is!

I think that there must have been two people who built this thing:

The first, who did shit proper, and the second who half assed OVER a lot of the good work already done.

Example: The distributor was HARD WIRED into the body electrical harness, there was no connector at all.

As far as the points through: does it have em? I didn't see any "points" only a magnetic pick up when I took it apart, so I dunno what points you're talking about Ted....

It has to be points?
I see 6 boots on top of the distributor cap.
4 are for spark plugs to the engine, and 2 are for the two coils - leading and trailing.
This is the same set-up for carb'd / distro'd 12A engines on 1st gens.
