Default coolant causing smoke??

Trying to brainstorm 13-B with major smoke at start-up. Logic sez that it is either damaged oil seals or coolant seals.
Could coolant somehow be getting by the O- rings on intake manifold and into the exhaust system.? I recently replaced them and they look O.K.-Whadayathink guys?

if it's coolant then it's the other O-ring. only fix is rebuild.

First thing you need to do is figure out if it's oil smoke or coolant smoke. Easiest way to tell is smell & color of the smoke. If it's coolant burning, it will be white smoke and smell sweet. If it's oil burning, it will be bluish color, and have a nasty, acrid smell.

extremely old fuel will also cause smoking issues, if the fuel isn't that old then see which level oil/coolant is dropping.

Another O ring? And where would that be?

The rotor housings and irons are sealed with O rings, when they (or the lands holding them) go you get coolant leaking into the area that the rotor occupies. Thus white smoke out the tail pipe.

since this is in the old school section then that's not a likely candidate, unless a fuel injected engine was swapped in.

So, u r saying that the pic of the busted O ring is from a fuel injected engine?? My 13-B is not fuel injected, but I see now where the o-ring is located and understand that a rebuild is in my fiuture.
Before I do the rebuild, I am going to plug up the coolant ports on the intake manifold and see if that stops the smoking What do u think?

all engines prior to 1986 had the coolant seals in the rotor housings so the wall breaking was a bit less of a concern. they still could lose a coolant seal but again, less likely than the 1986-2002 engines.
