Default In Dash DVD questions?

The Stereo in the Wifes Cavailer is dying, it is the orginial OEM from 2000, and I was thinking of replacing it with a In dash DVD unit. I really don't have the cash or the desire to put a $500+ unit into a Chevy Cavailer with stock speakers, I have some of them priced at about $100-150 but I am cautious about those. I have installed a many CD style Head unit but never a DVD. Any help with this will be great.
