Default the sterling nikki

Hey guys, I have a few questions about the sterling nikki carbs. I am on his website and im seeing all the different variations of mods he has for the nikki carb alone. My car is a 82' RX7 w/ 12a that im doing a pretty big bridge port on right now. I wanna know if anyone could give me some advice on which one of the sterling carbs to use? I know some will say just go with a Holley or Weber and be done, But I am on a budget at this moment trying to get her built for school. Thanks guys.

There's no doubt that Sterling produces a hell of a nice carb. However, he is not currently taking any new orders for carbs. He may return to it eventually, but for now he needs to feed his family and make it through this recession.

However, if you keep an eye on the For Sale sections, you might run across one. They are very rare, but they do show up time to time. As far as mounting this on a Bridgey, I don't see why you couldn't. They flow enough to handle it, and the jets and air bleeds can all be swapped for tuning purposes.

I would not run such a small carb on a bridge if it were me. Honestly, you could probably find a used 600 CFM Holley cheaper than you could a Sterling anyway. Then you'd just need to make an adapter plate to bolt it to your stock manifold until you can afford a Racing Beat manifold.

Granted, the Sterling carb requires less messing around with the linkages and fuel lines and oil injection and such.

Yowza. $450 for the full package though.

I have 2 Nikki's right now, a 1979 and a 1984. Which one should I modify? Both run great right now. I have heard the venturies are larger in the 79, but have not actually checked myself.

the Venturi's are the same.

the 79-80 carb has a better looking top, but it actually flows less than the 81-85.

the 81-85 has an idle mixture screw only, where the 79-80 has an air bleed also (idle fuel and idle air are both adjustable), which is nice if you have a port.

other than that its basically the same carb.

Sterling has said that his carbs were used on bridgies with good results, so I don't see why the SR Nikki couldn't as well. $450 isn't a bad price either, I paid close to that for my Sterling.

yes sr engineering is starting to put out some really nice product i actually just received some really knowledgable help from cobrastngsvt on rx7club and he sent me some very good documents on how to strip the nikki and modify them. but i am saving up for one of his custom built carbs they are really nice.

Hey this is Rich, owner of SR Race Engineering. I'd be happy to help anyway I can, PM me if you have any questions on your rebuild. My #1 advice though, don't lose the check balls and weights in your accel. pump circuit and you'll be just fine!!! lol
