Nicely done.
How many times did you have to walk that course though... jeez.... and how many went off course? You almost need a rally navigator compared to the tight ass million cones we run down here.

I actually assisted with the course design, so I didn't have any problems finding my way around. There were a lot of DNFs though, mostly by people too lazy to walk the course more than once.
The course was described (quite accurately, actually) as 60 seconds of freeway on ramps. lol. It was a very fun course. So many sweepers! I was able to hold a nearly perfect four wheel drift on the majority of them, just hanging on the edge of spinning out (which I did only once). I was told that my car was the most entertaining to watch as it "danced" its way through the cones, so I was pretty happy overall. My car was perfectly balanced; I had no traction at either end of the car. As usual, most of the drivers on Hoosiers couldn't keep up with my cheap assed Sumitomos. lol. On the 2nd day, I did get beat by a supercharged Miata, a Lotus car, and a STI, all of which were running Hoosiers. But overall, not too shabby for 1100 CCs of raw power! |

You were right about your car dancing through that course though, looks like a blast to drive.

Thanks man.
I was trying to think of alternatives to cones a couple of years ago, but there aren't many options that are practical. Old detergent bottles, milk jugs, etc. with a little bit of water or sand in them to give them a bit of heft could work, but they won't stack together like cones do. There might be a workable solution, but I wasn't able to come up with one before I started thinking about something else. lol... |

Okay, the results from this event have finally been posted. My best time was 59.4 seconds, while the fastest time of the day was 56.7 seconds. That time was put down by my nemesis, the supercharged Miata on fat race rubber.
So with me on the cheap Sumitomos, and him on the fat hoosiers, I got a difference of 2.7 seconds on a one minute course. Do you guys think that going from the Sumitomos to Hoosiers would be enough to close that gap? I've been watching Ebay and there are a couple of guys selling slightly used sets of Hoosiers for about 200 bucks, which is about 75% off the cost of new. These are tires with about 90% of "tread" remaining. Sounds like a good deal. I think I'll have to put in some overtime and pick a set up. It would be very cool to be able to put down the fastest time of the day, using an fb. Here's a photo of my Nemesis: Last edited by Kentetsu; 07-09-2010 at 04:50 PM.. |

I know this is an old thread, so I hope it's okay if I reply.
Nice time! Especially for chasing a boosted miata. Wait a minute... did the miata get bumped to ur class?? I thought you said u run CSP. Boosted cars belong in SM, SM2, or SSM. |

I'm glad you brought this thread out of the closet, because I am now able to answer my own question (seen above). I did not buy Hoosiers, but went with Hankook instead. And to answer the question, YES! I am now thrashing the boosted miata on a regular basis. Also, I've taken FTD at three of the five events I've attended with these tires. All with a carb'd stockport 12a RX7. I'll bet you can imagine the looks on everyone's faces when they find out the hot Subaru, Porsche, Vette, Lotus, etc. came in behind the lowly fb. LOVE IT! |

Oh okay! I see now. My bad. I have experienced class bumps to B stock before in my miatas (the suck cuz I can't compete!), but it always depends on the local club officials.
Good job! I was pretty sure you'd figure out that race tires would get you 2-4 seconds faster. Which Hankooks did you get? They're the new flavor. When I first started racing Azenis were the hottness. |
