Default Went 2009 RX8 exploring at the NY Auto Show (DSL? still using that?)

I tried my best to take detailed pics with a "so-so" Olympus point and shoot my girlfriend had. Very crowded Saturday afternoon so it was quite hard to get good shots and not have 50 people get in the way at the same time . Long lines to get a seat in the car too .

I Gotta say though, it did look quite nice in person. It really does look much better in person than the photos released online. I Absolutely hated how the back look in the pictures but it did look classy in person.

The new 3 spoke steering wheel didn't bother me much other than the fact that it was upside down. Couldnt see the gauges though because they weren't lit. The R3 Recaro seats hold your upper torso in somewhat tightly. I'm 5'9" and ~ 155 lbs so it'd imagine that anyone over 6'0" and 200 lbs might have some trouble with the Recaros. The bolsters started to peal also.

I'm going to throw in the Speedsource demo car and the Furai pics too.

Great Pics!

I feel like I was there..

Steering wheel looks kind of like the new MX5

I'm not sure what's going on with the front grill. I guess they want certain amounts of air to pass thru?? I do like the interior with red stitching. Reminds me of the Spirit R stuff.

I wonder if the new tail lights will fit the old model??

19 inch rims.. One of the pics looks like it might have bigger diameter rotors (brake)??

I found the grill interesting too. I thought I was seeing things when i saw two somewhat small openings but when I took a picture of the grill with flash, it definitely showed.

According to rx8club, the taillights are slightly bigger in height than the old ones. The bumper around the tail light area is a few mm lower to allow the larger taillights to fit. I guess they can fit with some modification to the 04-08 bumper or a 09+ bumper.

Not sure about the brakes.

Sorry, no pics of the whole RX8. I had a hard enough time taking random parts of the car . Quite a lot of impatient people at the show on a Saturday Afternoon.

Here's a link to pics of the car. It looks much better in person in my opinion.

Did they tone down the fender bulges in the front?

The angle of the fender edges were actually changed to give a sharper fold at the edge (a sharper "bulge"). The new headlights probably makes the fenders look less dramatic though.

I still think it's ugly... It could be so awesome with just a few changes.

+1 I'm not overly impressed with the changes. I think the steering wheel looks horrible compared to whats already out and I'm definatly not a fan of that side marker in the vent deal thats going on. Front grill definatly looks like something that was done so they can get the car in the next CARS movie. Nice to see that the "special" 40th anni wheels are also being used for display purposes, I wonder if that is what will be used at sale.

^ wondering the same thing w/ the wheels.

Honestly, if I could have any parts of the new design, it would just be the taillight assemblies and the factory recaro seats...

Other than that, I'll stick to the current design until the 2011 is released w/ the 16X engine.

The ones on the RX8 R3 are 19 inchers compared to the 18 inchers for the 40AE. The 2009+ Touring/Grand Touring will use 18 inch 40AE in a different finish.

I asked the Mazda Representative when a brand new redesign will come and he said we should be seeing a new RX with a completely different engine around the year 2010-2011. 2009 RX8 will be released around june-july of this year.
