WTF, seized by the gov't? That's some BS! This gov't is getting way too obtrusive. I believe they've forgotten their role.

Why do you need a R1 shell? A base shell would be the same.

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquer...:@@@D&summ2=m& Turns out it was due to heavy lobbying by Mercedes. "The grey market was successful enough that it ate significantly into the business of Mercedes-Benz of North America and their dealers. The corporation launched a successful million-dollar congressional lobbying effort to stop private importation of vehicles not officially intended for the U.S. market. An organisation called AICA (Automotive Importers Compliance Association) was formed by importers in California, Florida, New York, Texas, and elsewhere to counter some of these actions by Mercedes lobbyists, but the Motor Vehicle Safety Compliance Act was passed in 1988, effectively ending private import of grey-market vehicles to the United States." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grey_im...#United_States Turns out the problem has to do with corporate money influencing politicians to do their bidding! |

Man! I was looking forward to following the build. Keep us posted. If you find any rollers in S. Fla. and need someone to go take a peek let me know. I'd be happy to check it out for ya.

It always has to do with money. Sadly to the government, nothing else matters. On a lighter note, I have found a importer in Philadelphia that can find me a R1 roller. So hopefully I'll have that in my hands within a couple of months and I can start the damn build already. Been a LONG time coming. |

Why don't you just buy a legal car instead of illegal/imported rollers? Wouldn't that save you money?
