Checking for boost leak
I am having trouble holding stable boost and I want to rule out some of the possible causes. One of those items to rule out could be a boost leak.
I bought the Fighter's Garage pressure check kit for an FD with Stock sequential twins. I have a 26 Gal air compressor. I have the pettit CAI. Currently I still have the emissions and charge relief piping attached (see photo). My biggest concern now is that there seems to be a great deal of pressure comming out of the emissions and charge releif pipe (see Red arrow). Should there be? I am working under the assumption that the two valves on the left side (green arrows) should be closed and I thought that was the intake tract for the air pump so no air should be coming from the air pump. With the air compressor regulator set to 10psi, the system pressures to about 4.5psi and quickly depressurizes with air compressor turned off. I don't beleive any pressure should be felt at the red arrow in the picture. That would lead me to believe that I have an issue with my factory BOV or charge control. Is that correct? (ignore the yellow cap, sorry attempt to seal it). the car: 93 R1. Relevant mods: Pettit Boost controller, SS IC pipes, Greddy Elbow, AWS block off plates, 99 spec CrossOver tube I appreciate any insight you guys might have on the matter, richard |
