Question removing front cover affects end play?

i have my engine on the stand right now, im noticing someone put a NA front cover on it and drilled a hole for oil to make it looke like a turbo 2 front cover. im not really confindent in it and i would like to replace it with a turbo front cover.
the problem is the motor was just rebuilt (o miles) and it has a tight end play and i dont wanna effect that. will replacing the front cover affect it? i will put motor with flywheel (already torqued on)facing down and front cover facing up to ceiling. is that ok? and then when done retorque front pulley.

It should not matter.
In fact, the FSM shows that initial check on end-play is done without the front cover.
The front cover just has an oil seal, which just slides around...

Just make sure the bearing doesn't slip!
Mazdatrix has a nice write-up on all the nitty gritty details.

That is correct.
Like I said before, just be careful about the bearing slipping...

Here's the link since you're up.
