SA hood vs. FB hood?
is there a difference between the two? If so what is it? I have stared at pictures but did not make anything out. Can they at least swap between if there are just cosmetic things?

the only difference that I am aware of is the 1978 & Early 79 hoods as the hood prop rod was on the right side.. Where in the mid 79 production run Mazda moved the hood prop rod to the Left side of the car ..

Nope that is my S/C'd rotary coming to eat ur A$$ up LOL quick note point on the hoods, all of the ones i used to see that were aftermarket metal ie certifit made, were early style. I used to commonly find them on the later 7s that had been involved in accidents |

I had a 1980 RHD that had the prop on the right side, but the rod stowed on the fender well, while a late '78 US car I had had the prop rod on the right side as well, but stowed on the hood. For what it's worth.

Just goes to show, you never know. So the 80 was an actual right hand drive vehicle? If so, it would still kind of make sense. I'd guess that the design changed in 79 from stowing on the hood to stowing in the fender and the props location was intended to be on the same side as the driver, then a 79 or later RHD vevicle would have a prop rod on the right that stowed in the fender. Who's on first?

One of those engineering opps, someone missed that on the cars going to the states. Caught it halfway through the first run. Will let you know the VIN split when I get in next week to check the fiche.
If anyone needs good straight hoods I have a few. All are Mazda no aftermarket. Last edited by rx4ur7; 03-19-2009 at 02:43 PM.. |

OK here it is.
There were 4 bonnet part #'s. 8871-52-310B VIN 1 to 134 8871-52-310C VIN 135 to 1799 <A>8871-52-310D VIN 1800 to 31148 8871-52-310E VIN 31149 - 5-- prefix <A> one way -> A new part can be used in place of former part, but former part cannot be used in place of a new part. (Mazda fiche) Bonnet Stay pre A were attached to RS bonnet, post A LF side inner fender. |
