Aftermarket Flywheel and counterweight compatibility questions

I have a chewed up RB chromoly flywheel and counterweight, can i use the counterweight with another brand of aftermarket flywheel like ACT? The counterweights look similar.

Yes, (rear) counterweights are universal and can be swapped with other aftermarket flywheels.
Just keep track of which series FC it belongs to!

It's based off the rotors in your engine. If you use S4 rotors, you need a S4 front and rear counterweight, same with S5.

When installing flywheel, you only need to concern yourself with the rear (automatic) counterweight.

If you plan to swap rotors in your engine, for example an NA S4 engine wanting to use higher compression NA S5 rotors for more power, or a turbo S5 engine wanting to use lower compression S4 rotors for more boost, you will need the rotors, plus the corresponding front counterweight and the corresponding stock flywheel or aftermarket flywheel with corresponding rear counterweight.

Roen, i dont think you understood the question,i know what counterweights go with which engines, what i need to know is if the aftermarket counterweights are useable with flywheels of different makes, questions been answered.

I didn't eat the fly wheel, it came to me machined all the way flat and used up pretty good, no more life left, someone raped it >_<

hmmm, dunno if i want to go that light of a flywheel though, hows driveability? does the car act up between accel/decel?

Never driven one, at least not yet, known plenty of people with T2s who have daily driven them though.

I dont know from personal experience, but from what I read on forums, the flywheel is not so bad on the drivability as a 4 puck is.

so if you use a fidanza one with a nice sprung disk clutch, it feels great, and the only "downside" is the ability to rev and drop revs faster, which to me a a GOOD thing, since that's the purpose of a LIGHTER fly wheel in the first place!

if it drops revs too quickly that'll be a problem, especially since i'm keeping a/c

how is that a problem? it only drops it too "quickly" if you are going at it at redline, and then do like, a heel-toe downshift going into a turn.

Otherwise, i really dont see it as a problem, but perhaps it's just because I havent driven with one. My friend is getting a Fidanza and an ACT clutch installed in a week, so I can update you with what he tells me about it.

He's also going to be racing his car at Miller Motorsports Park, so I can give you an update on the car's racing behaviour as well.

His ride is NA through, are you getting it for the TII or the NA?

As for the counterweight question: Racing beat started to make their own counterweights because Mazda stopped producing the damn things... so they are exaclty the same as the stock unit, just a little better made. They should fit ANY aftermarket flywheel.

On the flywheel, you need to worry about the NA/TII because of how it matches to the clutch.

On the counterweight, you only need to worry about S4 and S5 Turbo or N/A doesnt matter.

The thing is, they didnt make Turbo automatic FC's, so that leads me to believe that you can use an N/A engine counterwieght with a turbo car as well withought balancing problems.

They did. Just not in the US My j-spec came with a counterweight as well as a flexplate.

dude your talking to me like i can't tell the difference between an n/a flywheel and a turbo one, i know this stuff already >_> i was only unsure of the compatibility between aftermarket parts and whether or not the counterweights where standardized across the board or not. I've done my clutch/tranny 4 times in my n/a >_>, my post count doesn't reflect my knowledge (at this point) i only post when i can't find something

As long as the engine is in good shape i dont think the car will die when you turn on the AC.
