Question Hi to all, and a request for opinions/advice

Hi, everyone. I'm happy to be a new member of the Rotary Car Club--but instead of an introduction, I have a newbie question.

I bought an '84 RX7 GS a few weeks ago. Monday, the car started blowing white clouds out the tailpipe upon startup--coolant, not oil smoke. Have started the car once since then, with the same result. In fact, there was some coolant actually dripping out the tailpipe.

Is the motor totally trashed? Or is there (hopefully) some way to repair the problem without spending the Gross National Product of several Third World nations in the process?

Sorry to bother the membership with such a dumb question, but I'm no mechanic and not too familiar with 12As, and these forums represent the largest concentration of knowledge/talent/expertise I know.

With thanks and best regards to all,

Paul

Well, the bad news is that sometimes the coolant seals break (due to age but more likely due to overheating.) and you need to pull the motor apart to replace them. Most people take the time to rebuild the whole motor since it's already going to be in pieces.

You have a few options now and it all depends on your budget.

Which makes perfect sense. They are sacrificing safety either way. lol

Talk to Kevin at Rotary Resurrection.. he is a member here. I wouldnt think he was too far from you, and would be a good choice to do a re-build, and or point you in the proper direction to get one done if you dont want him to do it.

might help you save some money too, he'd be able to tell you if you can get get away with just replacing the damaged seals. Hit him up.
