Default Hatch strut re-install

I had to disconnect the hatch struts to replace the weatherstripping. The struts are now extended about half an inch too much to get back in. Will loosening the hinge bolts give me enough play to reattach the strut bolts, or is there a better way?

just push them back in have someone help you. if you loosen the hinges it will be a bitch to get the hatch realigned.
