Is this e-shaft saveable?
I seem to have nicked the e-shaft with something while it has been apart. I've used a little 400 grit sand paper to take the high parts of the edge off the nick and then 1000 grit around the entirety of the lobe to smooth the scratches from the 400 grit.
There is still a little bit of the nick showing, do I need to sand further or am I ok? Pic: |

The quality of parts going into an engine will effect the quality of the engine. Shit in = Shit out.
By sanding it you've made it out of round. Bearings are round. Will it work, probably, but it's damaged. Get a new one or mic it out

Catches your fingernail?
Throw it away. Lots of cheap, used ones available. ...or just go RX-8 brand new like others have suggested. -Ted |

I have minor pitting of my eshaft as well I do not know what to do. I polished off rust with steel wool and its pretty smooth... not to thread jack but I dont know what to do either. Also if I do decide to switch to the rx8 shaft will I need to change my rear stat gear? I know there has been discussion about using the rx8 shaft but will it be compatible with my s4 n/a without changing the stat gear? Also what exactly do I need to do with the oil passage on the shaft? anything at all?

Get the RX-8 shaft and both front & rear RX-8 stationaries with bearings. Nothing needs to be done with the oil passage. If you're using non RX-8 stationaries/bearings be sure to use a dial bore gauge and mic's to verify your oil clearances.
