So I have a 5.0L Ford now...
Courtesy of warwickben. My buddy and I picked it up on Sunday. It's going to get rebuilt/cleaned up/painted and thrown in the FB.
One of my patients rebuilds marine engines and has given me some ideas of what to do... Of course, I really don't know what the hell I'm doing, so anyone who can offer advice, that would be great. I'm probably going to order a rebuild kit from Summit, get some 8.5:1 pistons, bore it .030 over, and turbo it.

Bah! The easiest to make power in a 302 is "old school" style. Big ole honking cam, head work, and at least one carburetor! I have an 84-edition flat-tappet cammed 302 from a CFI application that I'm building for an 84 TBird oddly enough. We're entering it in the $2009 Grassroots Motorsports Challenge. It's getting close to a .600 lift cam, GT40 heads (not the "P" versions), long tube headers, probably an RPM Air-Gap over a single-plane though, a good 650+ cfm carb, and a good ole 250-shot of nitrous for the 1/4 mile. Flat-top 10:1 pistons are must.
302/5.0's can make good power on EFI and/or boost, but it's a LOT cheaper to do it the old-fashioned way. So, what are the specifics on said engine, what is currently wrong with it, what are your power goals, and what kind of racing will it be doing?

Well, plans have changed. I am going to take my time with this engine and save it for the 'vert and get an S5 T2 motor for the FB. The 'vert could really use some torque, because with the extra weight, it's slower than snail shit. I'm going to get it all cleaned up and start ordering parts to rebuild it, and probably do the swap next summer or the summer after, depending on how the FB project comes along.

well, when you do plan to build that sbf if i were you i would get on summitracing.com Nd buy a scat stroker rotating assembly for it, 347 FTW. i dont know exact prices, but i know their chevy kits are under 800$ for a chevy 383kit and im sure it wouldnt be much different for a ford

you could be real bad ass and get a dual 4 barrel carb intake. then run twin turbos. one for each carb. mite be over kill but what ever.
i wished i still had the mag that they turboed a 5.0 on the cheap i dont mean cheaply done but it was under 2k. in the mag they said every 15psi x2 the hp of bolt ons. what it means is say a intake adds 25 hp on a na 5.0 on a turbo 15psi motor that intake will add 50hp. they tested this out on a dyno with all the parts and it held true for most parts execpt for pulleys and stuff like that. can you trust every thing you read maybe not but i thought it was cool. can wait to see that motor running. i was all most tempted to use that motor in my sa. but after rebuilding the 2.3 turbo block for the rs turbo capri. i deiced id rather keep a rotary in my car. hey when you get what ever car your putting that motor in running we need to race. the turbo capri vs you 5.0 car. stock for stock the 2.3 made more power. but i want to see whats it like when both motors are built what happens. |

You know what's really funny? Not only are they the heaviest rotary-powered sports car, but they're also the heaviest rotary-powered vehicle that made it to the states. Yes, REPUs, RX-4 wagons, and Cosmos are all lighter.

A set of AFR 205cc heads would do nice with a nice profile cam.
