Need custom engine mounts
Anyone know where I can find some?
To be clear I should say I need custom THICKNESS mounts. I need them to be about 1 11/16" to 1 13/16" thick. I have the Garfinkel oil pan brace and I was using Noltecs which already required 1/4" spacers for the strut towers to be able to use my strut bar. I measured the Noltec mounts and they were around 2" thick, and taking out the 3/16" for the pan brace and 1/4" from additional thickness of the Noltecs it brings me to around 1 11/16". Anyone know where I can get polyurethane or maybe even delrin mounts made to a specific thickness? I need them ASAP as well since I have the engine back and I'll be dropping it in within the next few days. Also, how thick are the stock FD mounts, does anyone know? Just the rubber part themselves? Thanks! |

Who makes a custom motor mount that the bolt is larger than stock (1/2 inch ) and is designed so the bolt does not touch the metal part of the stock mount arm .They can be cut ot the leanth you need .Look through the venders section to see . Hint Garfinkles Motor Works .

bdc style - LUMBER! cut up some 2x4's to fit, then sand them down.... make sure you get the biggest nastiest file you can find though, the splinters are actually relieving the stress of the wood
But seriously - Are the Noltec's able to be machined? Meaning can a machine shop toss them on a lathe and turn them down to the length that you need?

Well I would recut them, but to answer Brian's question, no you can't cut the Noltecs because they have metal on both sides of the mount. I had some Delrin or Polyurethane mounts that would work if I cut them down but I traded them to my roommate a couple years ago. I think he still has them but he probably lost them again haha.
I thought about using lumber but I figured they might catch fire with the heat LOL. On a serious note though, I did buy a few hockey pucks to try but two of them together are too thick and one is too thin. I was laughing my ass off on Rice Racing's thread when I read the part about hockey pucks LOL. I'd much rather have real mounts anyway, but I figure Delrin or Poly isn't much different anyway, it's not like our mounts are electronic like the Audi mounts lol. |

This is not piston car science ,Give me the bolt hole dia ,the parts OD size ,the thickness needed .I will assume you need two .If I make them they will be green or white in color .How simple is that .

Sorry, I didn't even know you had responded those last couple times.
I got some delrin mounts about 6 years ago and I decided to get Noltecs instead. I traded the delrin mounts to my roommate a couple years ago for door sills and forgot about them. I asked him last week if he still had them and he did, so I got those and used my chop saw, then used a belt sander to smooth it down LOL. Worked pretty well. The engine is in and the car is running again. I can feel the engine vibrations but they're not too bad. Sorry again, and thanks! |
