				Aftermarket intake for single turbo.
			 
			
			
			Does anyone with a single turbo RX7 run an aftermarket intake either custom built or is stock good enough? I was also going to try "Nitrous cooling" and the kit sprays in front of the intercooler but i think i can modify it to spray in front of the intake for colder air. 			I had very -very- good luck with a Weber downdraft style intake with a pair of EFI IDA style 52-48mm tapered throttle bodies.

			I have seen some people modify an M2 or other box-style intake to work with a single turbo. This will really depend on the turbo kit as the turbo will have to be placed far back to make room for the box.

			A friend made his own CAI on his single...sourcing air from the nose. Given that his car is tracked regularly and it wasn't built for looks, it's really pretty clean. Unfortunately I can't seem to find any pictures and he's out of the country for another week or so. 			I'm running a CAI on my T70. I don't have pop up headlights anymore, not sure if that matters or not, but I ran a 4" duct from the turbo to under the headlight, where the second oil cooler is on the R1/2 models. I have a preturbo water injection kit mounted in it also.

			I'm running the crooked willow dual oil coolers so your setup won't work. The main question im asking now is would the IAT sensor make running a nitrous cooled intake feasible? I wouldn't always be running the nitrous, it's just a small, safe power adder.

			Just to be clear.... you're not talking about any nitrous going into the engine correct? You're specifically using it to cool the intake charge by blasting the intercooler or some other part of the intake system? 
		
		
		
		
		
		
			Assuming this is what you're plan is then yes the IAT will adjust according to the air temperatures. BUT, the stock sensor is known to be very slow reacting. If you have an open element sensor such as the one being discussed in the 3rd gen section, link follows (http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...ead.php?t=8381) then it will work quite well with a setup like this. If you're running the stock sensor then your fuel maps will either be too lean, or overly rich once the sensor reacts to the air temperature change. If you don't have the fast reacting sensor then I can get one for you. Now if you're talking about spraying the intake with nitrous, such as the air filter or something. The nitrous will go into the engine and if you don't add fuel you're engine will blow that instant. Spraying the air filter with nitrous would be the same as injecting it into the elbow or whatever. In which case you're better off injecting it into the elbow. Hope this helps. Let me know if you need a fast reacting IAT.

			Well nitrous in itself isn't hard on cars, provided you tune properly for it. But It's more difficult to tune for. And it's one more variable that has to be accounted for. Nitrous use on any engine is very similar to modifying a rotary, they both have a bad wrap in the reliability department. This is mainly due to people not understanding what it takes to make the rotary, or a nitrous system work successfuly. With the right knowledge in both areas nitrous could be ran reliably on a rotary. For the most part though, a turbocharger can make all the power you'll ever need so nitrous just isn't necessary.
