July 2009 Ride of the Month - RotaryFever's 1973 RX-2
Q: Congratulations for winning Ride of the Month! Tell us about how you acquired this car?
A: Purchased the car in March of 2006. I have been looking for an RX-2 all over the states. The car was 10 miles away from my house. Owner at first did not want to sell. I kept on insisting. He finally gave in. Q: How did you first become interested in modified cars? Have you had any previously? A: In the early 90's I worked at JFK. The whole crew there, were into rotaries. Purchased my first 1980 RX-7 then. From then till now, I have owned a total of 8 RX-7's ranging from 1979-1985. In the mix, I also owned a four door RX-4. Q: Whats the biggest reason you chose a rotary powered car to modify? A: Engine is simple. Everything is right there. I used to go to Long Island with a crew of three, looking to embarrass mustang, camaro and grand national owners. We stomped Fountain Avenue in Brooklyn Friday and Saturday nights. Hunts point in the Bronx on Sunday's. Good racing at Hunts point. Q: Is this car your daily driver? Do you participate in any form of racing? (Drag, Auto-X, etc) A: I only drive it in good weather. The car is too clean and I spent a lot of money to tear it up. Q: What do you enjoy most about your car? A: Watching people's faces when stopped at a light. Q: Do you have any future plans for the car, or any car? A: Looking to get an RX-3 that is already done. My project took 17 months to complete, countless hours in the garage, blew my budget in three different occasions and wife was getting ready to kill me. Q: Any other hobbies besides cars? A: Soccer on the weekends. Q: Anyone you'd like to thank? A: Three people in particular. Rude Boy Gordon. He built my enigine and tuned it. He also helped with the suspension, cooling system and brakes. The crazy Argentinian Rodolfo. We spent a lot of time putting the interior together and working out electrical issues. My wife for putting up with me while building this car. Keep in mind that she was pregnant at the time. I fired the car up, when my son was born.
