No, much bigger.
The 323 GTX had the BP 1.6 engine (variation of the 1.6 in a Miata) The 626 GT had an F22T, 2.2L. A guy on the MX-6 forums put a stock one on the dyno and made 160HP and 202ft/lbs torque on a bone stock 150K car! They were way underrated from the factory. This thing is a friggin torque monster.
