Dropping in motor. Lining up input shaft with pilot bearing?
I'm dropping in my motor right now. I can't get the input shaft of the tranny to slide into the pilot bearing. I have the motor mounts off the engine to allow more room for moving the motor around. I have the clutch attached to the engine and the downpipe also. How far should I jack up the tranny? Should I take the clutch off the motor and put it in the tranny and use the peek hole to bolt it up to the flywheel? Do I need to press the clutch in or something? I can't figure out what I'm missing.

did you use a clutch alignment tool to get the disc in the middle and lined up for the shaft??
If IIRC the back of the motor has dowels to help alignment, but I've never had a problem getting it to slide in... did you try turning the input shaft a few degrees and trying again??

Yes, I used a clutch alignment tool to hold the clutch in place while I tightened up the pressure plate bolts. It does have a few dowels, but I can't even get the motor to that point. The motor gets caught on something about an inch before that, and I can't see what it is.

Maybe it's the release bearing not going into the pressure plate. A stock release bearing should work with a ACT pressure plate right???
And my clutch pedal is a dead pedal. I press it in with no resistance and it doesn't seem like it's moving the fork. |

Ok, after a few hours of fighting it, I figured it out. My clutch slave cylinder took a major shiet. So the release bearing was sucked all the way to the back of the bellhousing, and it wasn't going in right because the clutch would hit the release bearing fork. I have the motor in now and the clutch to pressure plate bolts in, and I need to wait for a new slave cylinder to show up.
