I don't know about the past of these gaskets, but they are working well for me. they have held up well so far and I haven't had to retorque them.

In all liklihood they're probably not the same ones I was thinking of. Unfortunatly I can't remember which ones I read about so I automatically corrolate graphite gaskets to being failure prone, which is probably horrendiously false.
