Intercooler mist cooling system
Has any one thought of making a misting system that uses water to mist on the IC to help reduce heat? I have the PFS SMIC and with it being 90F+ outside in the daytime it gets heat soaked real quick and my AIT's rise up to 55 Celsius with just minimal boost. I may be crazy but it would be possible to run a line with to the front of the IC which could be controlled by a thermostat off and on to produce a fine mist to help cool down the IC.
any one tried this? |

Those sprayers don't work.. Even when sprayed with cooler NOx, the temp is temporary.
You have to look at all the metals that heat soaked the car.. And how long it will take to cool it back down.. Standing still with lack of air circulation will only lead to heat soak.. Best I could think of would be large IC or put a small fan on the back.. It will help a little.. but could also restrict the flow. Others have recommended liq/air but i'm not a big fan of those..

Dan Chadwick has a fan on the back of his intercooler and has reported a drop in intake temps while stationary when spraying the intercooler with water. If he wants to elaborate, I'm sure he will chime in.

Water/meth injection.
Don't waste the spray - put it into the motor. It works and provides a result significantly better than that provided by cooling the outside of the intercooler. I run an AEM kit, which is MAP-based. I can get below ambient charge temps and instant, unfaltering detonation prevention in all ambient conditions - even this 115° Phoenix heat and 41 lbs/min of air - for the full duration of a tank of gas on just a 1/2 gallon of $1 washer fluid. Instant power, too. Even without re-tuning for it, you will see a significant increase in torque. |
