Re-conditioning side plates ( resurfacing and re hardening)

Here is a set of 20b side plates done for a customer.

Here is a good example why NITRATE is a must for your side irons if lapped or surface ground .

In these pics you will se a side iron that has been lapped/surface ground without nitrate. It only has 1500 miles. Look at the extreme wear on the surface. It has the same surface wear as a 100k mile side iron. If you Lapp/ surface grind your plates??? Make sure you NITRATE people!!!

Couple of pics claiming improvement does not tell us much. Please explain that process and why whole iron plate is not hardened from the factory?
