Check your tie rods and the idler arm bushing first. I had a similar problem which turned out to be the idler arm bushing being shot. MazdaTrix has the bushing and it's not expensive to replace. Otherwise it's in the box itself. You can tighten it up a little with the backlash screw, but be careful as it doesn't take much and if you go too far you could have problems.
