If you are looking to get better brake performance than you should stay with the stock brake rotors and just up grade your pads. I have been using Hawk HPplus pads for my sa for about 8 years they aren't going to wear out you rotors fast and they have great stoping power. The bad side of them is that they do create a lot of brake dust. They are good for street/ autox use as well as light track day use.
I had to upgrade to a better pad for track use as I got faster I am now using the Hawk blue and black pads which give better stoping power but are not for street use because they need to be warmed up before they work well. You can contact andrew-racing.com and he can guide you in the right direction, he handles pads ,rotors ,and brake fluid.

I run the Powerslot rotors on my '82 with Hawk HP Plus pads for street use and the occasional track day. I was running a 6-port half-bridgeport 13B with 9.7:1 rotors, now I'm running a NA REW, and this pad/rotor combo works well for the street other than the dust.

I had slotted/cross drilled rotors for a few years. Waste of money. They cost way more than standard rotors and do nothing for performance, at least that I felt during autocrossing, aggressive street driving and Deals Gap. Spend the money on a set of braided stainless brake lines from Racing Beat and some Hawk or Porterfield pads. You'll get your best braking performance out of super sticky tires. Nevermind the hype.

i have another thought for ya since it was one of my former project. ever consider useing an 84-85 gsl se ? i find them on salvage car auctions and ebay usually for several hundered bux ! you ll get the stronger axels and common wheel bolt pattern plus all disk brakes as well and a limited slip but you will have to swap master cylinders if you had drums /// you might get lucky and trans and engine still in car ...

A couple of years ago (three I think) I bought a full set of rotors from Rockauto.com I went with the cheapest that they had, which was about $15.00 each. I mounted Hawk HP pads at the same time.
Fast forward three years: Over 30k miles on them (racing and daily driving) and they are still in great shape. The pads still have more life left on them than they've used up so far. .

I have not yet used their rotors personally, but know several people that have and are quite impressed. I do however use their brake pads, which I would highly recommend. |
