Your absolutley right about getting the best spectator spots if you volunteer.

I volunteered at the 100 acre in the woods down in the Ozarks back in the
day and it was a blast.

Here in the US we are so concerned about spectator safety that you can't
see anything as a spectator. Kind of why Rallys aren't as popular here as in
other parts of the world.
