They are probably using a direct fire ignition system. Take a 2nd gen coil pack, hook that up in place of the original coil, run the plug wires directly from the coil pack to the spark plug. This leaves you with two less plug wires coming from the distributor cap.

Run a search on direct fire and you will find instructions.

Others remove the trailing coil packs all together. I have seen it done mostly on FD's, and just a few FC's. It prevents detonation, but you will lose some power.

I had the second gen DFIS setup and its is much better than stock but
you wouldn't want to delete the trailings, they still help some.

That setup burned out ( it was the ignition box on the SA I think ) and now
I use GM HEI ignitors and Ford TFI coils (one for each leading plug). I then
removed trailing and stopped using the vacuum advance because this
setup was so much better than the 2GDFIS. Very simple, strong and easy
to source replacement parts cheap.

Unfortunately the only writeup I have is on the other forum. Do a search on
that forum using my username (its the same everywhere) and you'll see it
show up. Lots of pics and diagrams for wiring it up.

I don't want to post the direct URL here out of respect. Maybe someday
I'll have the time to reproduce some of my how to stuff on here.
