RX?

So out of all those fun cars out there I have decited that the RX-7 is the one for me. So i have some questions and i would be looking at a twin turbo model. what rpm dose the first tubo kick in at? how much boost dose it make? what rpm dose the second turbo kick in at? how much boost dose it make? what are soem good upgrades basicly bolt on what will be good cost wise and performance? i have a truck already that is nice and new and best of all paid off howerver the rx7 would be my summer dailey driver. what would be an avrage stock 1/4th mile time in one of these cars? standard tranny of course. Last what would be about the max power I could get out of this engine and still have it be a realibal DD?

The first turbo comes on pretty fast, its been awhile since i was sequential but seems like around 2k or so. The second turbo kicks in at 4.5k. Stock boost is 10 8 10. Mid 13's is what i would expect from an experienced driver in the 1/4. Go with reliability mods first, replace ast, radiator, go with silicone vacuum hoses and downpipe. Then intercooler, water injection, exhaust, intake or k&n filter. After that, fuel system and pfc, raise the boost to somewhere between 13 and 15 psi. Reliable power on stock sequential twins is 330-350 rwhp. Single turbo is next on the list and will put you in the 400's reliably or even in the 500's like me, but after 400's u start breaking stuff like differentials. Get a compression test on whatever car you look at, and start saving for a new engine.

Edit: oh yeah and get a fast reacting iat sensor. Even on the stock ecu its a very worthwhile upgrade.

personally I wouldn't daily drive one. Even witha properly maintained car things will go wrong. These cars are getting older, and autozone doesn't away stock parts such as alternators.

That said I love my car.

He has a spare truck to drive so he should be okay. Down time will come around in an rx7 so you def don't want it to be you're only source of transportation. I daily drove mine for 2 years, then blew the engine and it sat in a field for a long time. (poor car) now I have a deeper respect for how fragile they can be.

They aren't the most comfortable cars to daily drive, but the cool factor offsets all that. Especially when you first get the car, thats the greatest feeling in the world. I love my car, but it's too noisy and awkward to drive every single day, makes me kinda miss that stock quiet exhaust that just sounds like a massive suction noise. I love the all out power of my car, but there is something very appealing in the quiet and instant power delivery of the stock 7.

Out of "all the fun cars" you've picked the RX7 but you don't know anything about it? Doesn't seem like you've made a very educated choice. Read first.

I did the same thing. Bought my RX7 when I was 18. I knew a lot about cars but not so much about rotaries. Blew my engine when I was 20. Didn't have the funds to fix it until I was like 24 and now know the car like the back of my hand. I'm sure he will find out within a couple years if he can handle the upkeep and expenses. Some people learn by other's mistakes, and others (like me) learn the hard way. But I love my car and would never regret the purchase.

RX

I drove my stock FD as a DD for 11 years before it needed a new engine. Coolant seals went paint faded etc. So I'm rebuilding her and hope to have it back on the road this year. As others have said do all RELIABILITY mods first. That is the best money you can spend.
