Default Putting Tii skirts on a na or vert

I know this is pretty common but I had a couple of "best practices" questions. The vert doesnt have the in-fender holes, the holes on the side of the car under the door for the plastic clips, or the holes under the car for the screws.

Is it typical for folks to use double-sided tape for everything except the side mouldings and inside the fender wells?

I'm guessing people use the screws in the fender wells so there is a real mechanical fastening somewhere, but do you do anything to protect the drilled holes so they dont become rust beachheads?
