January 2013 "We're still here" Rotary of the Month Winner!
Congratulations FC Zach our Jan 2013 Rotary of the month winner!
Location: Smyrna, TN
1976/77 Hercules W2000 w/ oil injection, one of 199 ever made!
Q: Congratulations for being our January Ride of the Month! Tell us about how you acquired this rare Rotary bike? A: After meeting Jess at Rotary Recycle through my first rotary bike (the RE5 from DGRR 2008), I learned there were other rotary motorcycles and I really took an interest to the Hercules. After working with him for a period of time while restoring my RE5 he picked out the beautiful bike you see here, I sold the RE5 to build the funds to purchase this bike.
Q: How did you first become interested in rotary bikes? Have you had any previously?
A: I had never known about "rotary bikes" till I saw my first RE5 sitting in a showroom at a local motorcycle dealership 5 years ago, I actually thought it was a GS750 but upon second glance I processed what my eyes were actually seeing and I didn't believe it! I called a fellow rotorhead friend of mine to come check it out and we probably stood there staring at it for an hour. Two weeks later I owned that exact bike! The passion for rotaries all started with the Mazdas and when I saw the bike that day in the showroom I just knew I had to have one to be complete LOL.
Q: Whats the biggest reason you chose a rotary powered bike?
A: I love the attention the bike gets and its not just from the Mazda guys, it's from the biker guys too. No matter where I go I almost certainly know I'm going to be late from chatting with the 'old' guys that "never knew they existed" or had "heard of them but had never seen one". I don't mind this one bit but if I have to be somewhere on time, I DON'T STOP!
Q: Is this bike your daily driver? Do you participate in any form of racing? (Drag, Auto-X, etc)
A: No and No. Although I believe the old saying: Don't hide em ride em, it would just be a shame to put excess wear on such a rare bike. Racing just isn't an option, the bike is too outdated for me
Q: What do you enjoy most about your bike?
A: No matter how many times I've ridden it, it's a blast to ride and always puts the biggest damn grin on my face. It'll never get old!
Q: Do you have any future plans for the bike, or any bike?
A: Keep it maintained and running for years to come. Oh, I need to swap the tires out soon.
Q: Any other hobbies besides bikes?
A: Yep, Mazdas
Q: Anyone you'd like to thank?
A: Oh yes! none of this would have happened without the help of Jess Stockwell! Without his guidance I would have never got my RE5 to be the outstanding machine it became and would have never acquired this little gem of a Hercules! Thanks Jess!
And anything else you would like to add.
See everyone at Deals Gap Rotary Rally 2013! __________________
