new car new setup
Im moving farther from work with a new 88 t2 and trying to figure out the setup i want to make and want some input. Im building an engine with all new housings and irons. Im dont want to do any porting on this one and want the best mileage for power i can. I also just got my 4 550's cleaned and am going to eventually hook up my ltx-8 on this car. First i need a turbo rebuild [just put the second one i had and it still smokes] i want a bnr and am confused if i want a stage one or two. Im getting older and dont need all the power but dont know if ill regret if i get the 1. What else should i do keep in mind building a stock port s4t2 while giving it a bit of a kick.

You still sound a little vague on what EXACTLY you want to do with the car...
POWER and (gas) MILEAGE are mutually exclusive terms; you cannot have both. Sorry, it's just physics and the laws of nature. You sound like you're spending a LOT of money on new housings - it's really not necessary, and if you're on a budget, I'd recommend against it. Spend the money on good, used housings and use the leftover money on others things on the car. If you do insist on going with all the new parts, why not port the motor? Porting increases efficiency of the engine, and that gives you "free" power. I managed to put down 240 at the wheels on a DynaPack, which equates to about 300bhp at the flywheel. Haltech E8 powered + 4x720 + stock TMIC Others have done 260+ at the wheels with stock turbos - FMIC + standalone EMS. I don't know how much more power you want, but that's some serious power on the street already. The stock 4x550 fuel injectors max out around 240 at the wheels on a DynoJet, and that's about the maximum the stock turbo will put out. If you're not planning on getting larger fuel injectors, you're asking for trouble looking for more power. If you're serious about getting a compressor upgrade or hybrid, I'd go balls out and get the biggest one you can afford...and run low boost. For BNR levels, this is either a Stage3 or Stage4... -Ted |

The 3 or 4 comment was what i was looking for. I am going to run stock boost for now and would like to eventually down the road run more. I just want a safe reliable setup for my new hour commute each way. Gas mileage is an issue but it is mostly highway. I already have the housings. I guess im just confused if i wanna stock port and run 550's or upgrade and port and how mileage will be effected in a 2 hour a day drive.

dude, why the hell would you build a turbo FC to be your daily driver? The way you're going, it sounds like you will need to make a lot of comprimises, so why not just get a cheap honda and drive that daily, then have an FC built just how you want and not through comprimises?
Or do you just want an FC because you can?

You can run 720's in the secondaries and get one of those RTEK thingies. -Ted |

Coo, even better!
I run the stock TMIC with a stock turbo right now controlled by a Haltech E8. 4x720's I'm running 10psi with no problems. Good luck! -Ted |
