Hello, I 'm new to posting and a new rotary owner. I have a 84 rx7 but it has problems. I live in Missouri and there is not a mechanic near me that knows anything about a rotary engine. If someone out there would like to help me out that would be great. If someone lived near me that knew about these engines that would be better. It would be great to hang out with some rx7 people, without my car running correctly I can't say I'm in love with it yet we'll see how it goes. Thanks, |

Welcome to the club. Is it a carbed 12A or fuel injected 13B? What's the mileage? Mods? Maintenance history? What's wrong with it? Get us as many details as possible and/or a video.

Where do you live in Missouri? I'm from Southeast MO and I'll be driving from Colorado Springs, HOPEFULLY around the middle to end of May, I can stop by if you live somewhere along the way. I'm not too knowledgeable on FBs yet though. But maybe we can still sort something out. You probably don't want to wait that long though haha, I wouldn't either. Like Phoenix said, what problems are you having?

Thanks for responding Phoenix7, I see your from the bay area, I lived in Sacramento for 21 years I moved here to Missouri 4 years ago. The car is a 84 GSL 12a with a carburetor problem. It's all stock with the Fed. smog stuff but not the Calif. stuff ( I believe) it has 126,000 miles and I don't really know the Maintenance history. I'm lead to believe it's good because the car looks like new inside and out. At first I thought the problem was in the ignition area, (coils, ignitors, wires, plug) that type of thing but now I'm sure it's in the Carburetor. The left side Trailing plug fowls out at start up so I let it warm up a little change that plug and the car will run like a top (purr like a kitten) the next day you pull the chock start the car and the plug fowls and you have to change it again. The left two plugs are black from excess fuel and the right two are a medium brown. I was hoping to just be able to drive and enjoy the car not spend a lot of time and money on it setting in the drive. Thanks, Curtis |

Curtis I had 83 Rx and when my shutter valve went bad there is a vacuum line top motor not sure exact location remember plugging it with a bolt must have been size thumb, plugged it off at I think it was carb. Smoothed the rotary right out drove it many years that way. Takes alot fix shutter valve. Mine made whistle sound when throttling heavy. Hope you can get it figured out.

I have read that the shutter valve can be replaced but the question is, is mine bad and if it is can it leak fuel into the carb. or cause it to burn rich and fowl out plugs. Not all the plugs but just one. It doesn't have any of the symptoms I've read about. No rough idle no honking or whistling noises. As far as I can tell it doesn't make any noise that I can hear. where in missouri are you from? I'm in Lincoln Nebraska and there are quite a few rotary guys between here and Omaha, plus there are some in Kansas City and one guy just outside of St. Joe that is really good with rotaries, he just won't touch a third gen. There's also a good shop in St. Louis |

I'm about 80 miles west of St. Louis. That would be great if you had a contact number so I can call that shop. Do you know if they will give advise over the phone? Curtis |
