Just picked up a 2004 RX-8 :)
My brother-n-law is heading out to Kuwait for a year or so and I just purchased his RX-8. This is the third rotary I have owned. I belive it is a GT version. It redlines at 9K with moonroof, spoiler, fog lights, 98K miles, new transmission, spec clutch. Not sure what I am going to do with it yet but it drives great!

With an access port you can be "emissions legal" and disable all the engine codes, or do you have actual sniff tests? We just have OBD2 plug in to scan for engine codes.
