Default thinking of buying an RX 8

Hello my name is Jose

As the tittle says I'm interested in an Rx-8 ever since I first drove one helping my friend move, I loved the power the little 1.3 liter kicked out. We drove to Nevada and he decided to take the canyon roads to Nevada, and I loved how it cornered...

I've been looking for the past month, at private sellers and well two of the cars I looked at were damaged one was crashed on the driver side fender, but they had professionally fixed so you couldn't tell, but I decided to look under and I noticed some factorry frame brackets bent...

Anyways I've since decided to buy from a dealer, I just was wondering if you guys can help me out with a check list to take with me when I go look at a car.

I should also mentioned that I'm planning to use this as a daily driver, I did have a 87' 325 as my DD but ever since I drove a track ready 325 I decided to make mine a full on track car...

Have to go will edit this later
Thanks
Jr

With a 8 make sure it has good compression. Thats the big one. Series 1(04 to 08) make sure all TSB's and engine flashes have been done. While series 2 (09 -12) is almost a new car compared to the earlier ones. The R3 being the flagship. It corrects most of the issues found in the earlier cars. Other than that do the standard things one would look for in a used car. All maintenance done no wrecks etc..

Default buying an Rx-8...

I was doing some reading on the Rx-8 and I have some questions....
One....
Will the car been discontinued affect parts available for this car?, and why is it been discontinued? Makes me wonder if rx8 not really a great car, not practical?

Two....
Why's does a manual rx8 have more horse power than an automatic?

Three...
Is maintenance a drag on this car? And how hard is maintenance on it any special tools needed?

Four...
How well does this car take boost, does it have to be altared much, if yes how hard is it to alter...?

That's it for now I'll come back if anything comes up...

Thank you
Jr

answer to question one. Yes in about twenty years or more for parts. Some may get harder, like new chassis but normal wear items no worse than anyother car. End of model run, couldn't meet new emissions standards and world economy in the shitter. Practical, well is a jacked up 4 x4 practical? That depends more on you and your needs than anything else.

Question two - 4 port vs 6 port motor. Search this site or web for more details on this.

Question three - No normal hands tools will let you fix 80 percent of this car. Yes engine rebuild or major suspension you will. Again just like any other car.

Question four - yes but no with boost. Yes it can but be ready for big bucks for it to be done right. Better off buying suspension mods than boost. If you want hp and torque this isn't the car for you period. Buy a rustang/camero.
